-- NIKITA AGARWAL

Hello people! This week I am going to narrate to you how I travel. Till now you must have figured it out that I just Looove travelling, anywhere, any place, at any given time of the day and the year. I have made it a point that every year I would go to one new place that I have never visited before in my life (that’s the least people, sometimes I visit more than one.

First I am going to tell you couple of my secrets that you can use:

  • Place. Deciding the place is the biggest problem, at least for me because I want to visit every place all at once. Picking a destination is immensely important as it gives you a definite goal. Not only will your trip become more concrete for you and easier to commit to, but it will make planning easier as well.

  • Duration. When you have decided the place you should even know how much time you’ll want to be away. Well it’s important for me because I can only travel in my semester break from college. So after you say “I’m going to Paris,” add “for 10 days.”

  • Research your costs and save accordingly.

  • Book your flights and hotels early to save money. I’ll tell you my story of once when I went to Chennai for the first time. It was during Christmas-New Year week and I didn’t book my hotel beforehand. I had to travel all through the city to get a decent room. It was a troubled day after 3 hours flight. I learned one thing more that day travel off-season: fewer crowds, better deals.

  • Plan. Always make a plan. Never go without a plan or else you’ll end up lying in the hotel room watching TV shows.

  • Research. Always and always read about the place, a lot. A lot means a lot. Take help from the technology, read blogs, search apps and travel guides. Be acquainted with the place, its local foods, local markets, and social norms. This would help you enjoy the place more.

  • Best company. If you are a person who can travel alone then go ahead and explore but if you are someone like my father who likes people around on every trip then make sure they are the best people. The people who make you happy and the people who would enjoy in the local atmosphere.

  • Set a reminder of your flight and everything else. Google Alert is a wonderful thing.

  • And last but not the least, enjoy your trip.

Hmm…so as I told that I simply love travelling. You can call me a travel-maniac or something. And to admit if I had no college and lotsss of money bills I would be travelling and travelling all the time. And the feeling would be unfathomable.

Well now I’m going to narrate a few incidents of my trip. Last New Year (2014) my parents decided to pay a visit to some Habibaullah, what I mean here is a visit to Dubai and New Year is the peak time of tourism there because of great shopping carnival and awesome weather, there is always an issue with visa and all, but luckily we got out visa cleared very soon because of some relative of my mom.

Then we booked our flights via Lucknow because that’s cheap (through makemytrip.com). And when we arrived it was Oh my! I just loved it there. Be it the Meena bazaar or the gigantic Dubai mall, we found happiness everywhere. We booked a bus because we were large in number and the guide was Pakistani and he made the trip awesome with his tiny jokes in between. We visited the creek, the local markets, Museums and what not. There are some clean and beautiful beaches as well to relax. We even had desert safari one day where they provide you with dinner and entertainment. There you would find camel rides and desert scooters for ride on payment. The other day we had our dinner at some cruise, again with entertainment of some sort. Every night at Creek fire cracker show for around 10 minutes takes place. They we went for ice skiing in the Mall, yes in the mall. You can even take a meal at the At-mosphere restaurant by Armani in Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. It was a short trip though yet we had so much fun there. Well it was a sudden plan and the un-planned plans are the best.

Way back in 2004-2005 I remember when there was not much of Internet and technology we used to sit and make plan with a notepad and pen. Wow! Those were the days when you actually felt like yes you are about to embark on a journey. Now with the advancement of technology everything is at out finger-tips. So yes I was telling about my journey in 2005 or 2006 when we visited Orissa. My mother is a sort of religious who wanted to see Jagan Nath temple in Puri but my father is the one interested in travelling new places. So I always had best of both the sides. We would visit the temples and then we would do some adventurous stuff.

There in Orissa we hired a car and travelled all to Bhuvneshwar and Puri and Konark. The marvelous Sun Temple and the beautiful dolphin filled Chilka Lake and not to forget the rare White tiger sanctuary.

Another trip was to Darjeeling-Gangtok. With snow on the rise the sun looks even more pleasant. There in Darjeeling was one Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park where they had all sorts of animals and birds but the best part was they were not caged and similar living arrangements as their natural habitats were made. Then there were natural waterfalls at some places then a Buddha temple and Buddhist Monasteries and the cutest toy train. Then there is one private plantation named Pineview Nursery where I came to know there are even types of cacti. Then a must visit to China border and play in the snow on the way. This trip is one memorable one for me because on this trip I for the first time tried paragliding in the guidance of India’s paragliding champion, Richen Dona Bhutia in Gangtok.

The latest trip I made this New Year was to Rajasthan, amidst the huge palaces I thought how would it be like to be born in the Royal family living in such huge palaces calling them your home. People in those days were insanely rich and married so many women just for the sake of money or land. By visiting Rajasthan you can feel how the people used to live back then as some of the palaces have been turned into a hotel or resort and it makes you feel that yes one should live like a King!

These hotels and resorts even host big New year parties for their guests, some charge, but some don’t, but at the end of the New Year you’ll feel it was worth it. One thing I am going to share with you people that a foodie and a traveller can never ever be bored in Rajasthan, there is so much to eat and so much to look around, you won’t ever be full. And not to forget the local shopping markets there, the rajasthani jutti, or the elephant printed skirts and kurti’s or the bamboo saree, well a place for shopaholics too. Here, the three of my favorite things get combined and it’s actually like a dreamland for me. So yes I shopped a lot, ate even more and there were no limits to travel. I would suggest every one of you to visit Rajasthan once in your life. The desert as well as the perks of a town.

And such many more trips within India and abroad. For now I’m signing off but catch me later for another anecdote on travel. Till then travel, travel and explore more. Toodles!
